EMMY AWARD WINNING REPORTER & ANCHOR FROM NBC NEW YORK SPEAKS AT CENTRAL EXCHANGE JULY 18

Communication Counts

In a competitive job market, effective communication skills are essential for getting the job, AND keeping it. Whether an employee or manager is making a presentation in a boardroom, selling an idea/product to a client, or meeting with the boss one-on-one, good communication is paramount.

Presentation and media coach Mary Civiello visits The CX July 18 for a luncheon and book signing to share tips and techniques from 20 years of experience as an Emmy award-winning TV reporter and anchor for NBC New York. Her new book, Communcation Counts: Business Presentations for Busy People provides practical and effective strategies to communicate better in a variety of workplace situations, from making the most of a minute with a potential customer (or the boss), to giving PowerPoint presentations that are powerful, not painful. Civiello was raised in Kansas City and received her BA and Masters degrees from the University of Missouri - Columbia.

Friday, July 18
11:45 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at The Central Exchange Downtown

Whether an employee or manager is making a presentation in a boardroom, selling an idea/product to a client, or meeting with the boss one-on-one, good communication is paramount.

Communcation Counts provides straightforward and practical advice about how readers can improve their presentations. Civiello offers strategies for combating fear, cultivating personal style, and developing effective elevator pitches. The chapters are arranged in an accessible manner that enable readers to easily turn to a specific topic for strategies or a refresher. Civiello also offers “Top Tips” at the end of each chapter recapping the main points for readers.

The methods in Communcation Counts are geared towards business scenarios, but their applications transcend the workplace. They can be used in all other facets of life: everything from giving a wedding toast, to interviewing for college, to networking more effectively.

Communcation Counts is an invaluable primer for individuals interested in improving their communications skills in and out of the office. As Civiello says, “When all’s said and done, Communication Counts will have walked you through basic and advanced techniques for every verbal communication situation likely to arise. You will know how to cut through the clutter in a broad range of situations when saying it right, and in the right amount of time, will tip the scales in your favor.”
