DUES INCREASE ANNOUNCED MARCH 2008

At nearly 100 years old, The Association for Women in Communications has continued to change to meet the needs of its members as well as to keep pace with the ever-changing communications world.

AWC began in 1909, as a group of seven women journalism students on the campus of the University of Washington and today is a national organization of communicators across disciplines. Kansas City’s own roots run deep: Ten years later, in 1919, the Greater Kansas City Chapter became the first professional chapter of a national organization that today with AWC has more than 4,000 active members, ranging in age from 18 through 90-plus with student and professional chapters throughout the United States.

Throughout these many years, AWC members have forged networks and personal friendships to sustain them as they move through their chosen professions, and to rejoice in their mutual successes.

Dues Increase

AWC has not increased its membership dues in more than a decade, and in this, our 99th year, your national board has determined that to continue to improve our level of service to members we must increase our dues.

Starting January 1, 2009, current Professional, Executive and Entrepreneur members will see their annual dues increase by $30. Retired and Student members will see a $5 annual dues increase in 2009.

However, those joining AWC beginning April 1, 2008, will pay the new rate.

Local dues are not anticipated to increase.

With your membership dues, AWC is able to host the prestigious Clarion Awards and national conference. Your membership dues also allow access to a national job board, a national membership database, a bi-monthly newsletter that shares best practices and news from AWC members and a host of other benefits. See below for a more detailed list of membership benefits.

As we continue to grow AWC, we look forward to 100 more years as a cutting edge professional communications organization. We look forward to working with you to strengthen AWC. If you have any questions, please contact National Membership Chair Heather Ann Hope at hhope@womcom.org or the national office at members@womcom.org, or (703) 370-7436. I’m happy to answer your questions, as well.

Continued success, as you continue to you grow personally and professionally!
